OSF Aviation
OSF Aviation consists of the twelve crew members and four mechanics who fly, fix and maintain the safety of the helicopters used by OSF Saint Anthony Lifeline (Rockford) and OSF Saint Francis Life Flight (Peoria). This team of physicians, nurses, pilots and mechanics averages 2,200 patient transfers each year, making it the busiest aeromedical operation unit in the State of Illinois.
OSF Aviation is located in an aeromedical operations facility, opened in Summer 2007. This structure allowed OSF to base the life saving services of all three entities under one roof. The four Bell 230 helicopters housed within the facility are owned by OSF Aviation, which also has its own Part 135 Certificate from the FAA. The $2.6 million facility includes 12,000 square feet of hangar space and over 7,000 square feet of office space. It can hold 6 twin-blade, 4 multi-blade, and 4 twin-blade helicopters in addition to one fixed wing aircraft.
The hangar is dedicated to Dr. Stuart Roberts, a pioneer in medical helicopter service.
