The
PET unit is based in a 18-wheeler truck and visits all of the
Illinois-based OSF hospitals in Galesburg, Bloomington, Pontiac,
Peoria and Rockford.
State
of the Art equipment
Our
Mobile PET scanner is touted by GE as the “best cancer diagnosis
and treatment tool with the clearest, most defining resolution
available detailing metabolic and functional change.” The
PET scanner can detect cancerous tumors as small as 5 millimeters,
smaller than a pencil eraser. It
can also detect heart muscle damage, epilepsy and adult dementia,
among many other things.
The
PET is a self-shielded unit (which
allows us to do exams right next to the hospital).
